I tried to get RealPlayer to play RM files on Gentoo with Firefox 3.0.
I finally did it by editing the /usr/bin/realplay script as described here:
http://troubleshoot.ooz.ie/2009/02/program-realplaybin-received-x-window.html
Thanks to all you technical bloggers life is so much easier.
Thanks!

A Python script and a decent media player is all it takes to get around NBC's website's obfuscation and catch some live video goodness. Check out this Ubuntu Forums thread, from page 3 and on:

yeah they do a pretty good service. godaddy does the same but usually for 9.99. its great value to find a hosting center that will give you a bulk registration rate in case your trying to hold on to several several domains for future business ideas or to sell

Unless you're going to a very obscure video site that uses some weird proprietary format, you shouldn't have any trouble finding a native Linux alternative. I watch streaming video in Linux all the time and I've never run into problems. Sometimes it even plays better than it does in XP.

And full-screen flash works just fine for me. You might want to mess around with the "legacy fullscreen" setting in compizconfig if you're having trouble with it.

Or you could just put the CD in while running Windows and do a WUBI install.WITHOUT using a virtualization software, granted however it will run slower than a native system installed on the hard disk.

1]Remember to backup everything on your HDD before you resize, edit, delete, format any partitions.Data loss due to these operations is permanent.
2]If you are using Vista, use Vista's Partition Editor to make any changes to Vista's partitions. The Linux community is rife with stories of people losing data and having non-bootable Vista installs due to the closed way in which Vista operates it's partitions.

If you find it cumbersome to keep rebooting, but you still want to play around with Ubuntu, you might want to consider <a href="http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/virtualbox]installing Ubuntu as a virtual machine inside of Windows</a>.
